How to Use the Dual Channel Power Supply

& Output Positive and Negative Voltage

If you're looking for a versatile benchtop DC power supply for electronics repair, laboratory testing, battery charging, PLC debugging, or product development, the KUAIQU SPPS3010-2KD 30V 10A Dual Channel Power Supply offers far more than two independent outputs.

With Independent, Series, Parallel, and Positive/Negative Output modes, built-in Memory Presets, OVP/OCP Protection, and optional PC programmable control, one power supply can replace several traditional power supplies.

In this guide, we'll walk through each major function and explain how to use them safely.

1. Premium Metal Design & Optional Programmable Interfaces

The SPPS3010-2KD is designed with a durable all-metal enclosure, giving it a professional industrial appearance while improving durability.

Key Design Features

  • Heavy-duty metal housing
  • Large cooling fan for efficient heat dissipation during continuous operation

Optional Programmable Version

If you purchase the programmable version, the rear panel includes three communication interfaces:

  • RS485
  • RS232
  • USB

The KUAIQU programmable power supply communicates through the Modbus protocol, making it easy to integrate into automated testing systems, production lines, and laboratory software.

Bonus: KUAIQU provides free PC control software, allowing users to:

  • Remotely adjust voltage and current
  • Save parameter groups
  • Monitor output in real time
  • Automate repetitive testing

2. How to Output Positive and Negative Voltage

The KUAIQU SPPS3010-2KD supports ± (positive and negative) voltage output, allowing you to power operational amplifiers, analog circuits, audio amplifiers, and other dual-supply applications without purchasing a dedicated bipolar power supply.

Step 1: Connect the Output Leads

The SPPS3010-2KD has four output terminals, arranged from left to right as shown below:

− + − +

Connect the test leads as follows:

  • Connect the first and fourth (outermost) terminals using the same color test leads (for example, red).
  • Connect the second and third (middle) terminals using another same color test leads (for example, black).

After connecting the leads, the terminals should look like this:

− + − +
│ │ │ │
Red Black Black Red

Step 2: Connect the Two Middle Output Terminals

This is the most important step for achieving positive and negative voltage output.

Use a short jumper wire to connect the two middle output terminals together.

After the connection, the wiring should look like this:

− +════−   +
      ↑
 Common Negative

Once the middle terminals are connected, the power supply can provide a positive and negative voltage output configuration, making it suitable for applications that require dual-polarity power.

Typical applications include:

  • Operational amplifier (Op-Amp) circuits
  • Analog circuit development and debugging
  • Audio amplifier testing
  • Sensor evaluation
  • Dual-rail power supply circuits
  • Laboratory research and development

Note: Positive and negative voltage output is available only in Independent Mode. If the power supply is switched to Series Mode, the two channels are automatically combined into a 0–60V single output, and positive/negative voltage output is no longer available.

3. Memory Presets Save Time and Protect Your Devices

Many engineers repeatedly use the same voltage/current settings.

Instead of adjusting them every time, the SPPS3010-2KD includes a convenient Memory Function.

How to Save Parameters

  1. Press and hold the Memory button.
  2. Adjust the desired voltage and current.
  3. Press the Memory button again to save.

Next time, simply recall the preset.

Benefits

  • Faster testing
  • Consistent output parameters
  • Eliminates repetitive adjustment
  • Prevents accidental over-current caused by manual tuning
  • Reduces risk of damaging expensive loads

This feature is especially useful for production testing, repair work, and laboratory environments.

4. OVP & OCP Protection

Safety is one of the most important features of a professional DC power supply.

The SPPS3010-2KD supports both:

  • OVP (Over Voltage Protection)
  • OCP (Over Current Protection)

How to Set OVP/OCP

  1. Press and hold the Function key.
  2. When the displayed value begins flashing, the parameter is ready to be adjusted.
  3. Rotate the encoder knob to select your desired protection value.
  4. Wait until the value stops flashing.
  5. Press the OVP/OCP button once more.
  6. When the button lights up green, the protection is enabled.

If either the voltage or current exceeds the preset limit:

  • Output is automatically shut off.
  • The display shows an OVP or OCP warning.

Why It Matters

This extra layer of protection helps safeguard:

  • PCBs
  • Batteries
  • Electronic components
  • Development boards
  • Precision instruments

It's an excellent safety feature for both beginners and experienced engineers.

5. One-Button Series & Parallel Modes

One of the biggest advantages of the SPPS3010-2KD is that it combines four operating modes into one power supply.

Independent Mode

  • Channel 1: 0–30V / 0–10A
  • Channel 2: 0–30V / 0–10A

Both channels operate independently.

Ideal for testing two separate circuits simultaneously.

Series Mode

With a single button, the outputs are connected in series.

Output becomes:

  • 0–60V
  • Current remains 10A

Perfect for applications requiring higher voltage.

Examples include:

  • High-voltage circuit testing
  • Motor control development
  • Industrial equipment testing

Parallel Mode

With one button, the two channels work together in parallel.

Output becomes:

  • Voltage: 0–30V
  • Current: 0–20A

Ideal for:

  • Battery charging
  • High-current electronic loads
  • LED testing
  • Electrolysis experiments

Positive & Negative Output Mode

By connecting the center terminals in Independent Mode, the SPPS3010-2KD can also function as a dual-polarity power supply.

This effectively gives users four different power supply configurations in one compact unit.

Mode Maximum Output
Channel 1 0–30V / 10A
Channel 2 0–30V / 10A
Series 0–60V / 10A
Parallel 0–30V / 20A
Positive & Negative Output ±0–30V (Independent Mode)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the SPPS3010-2KD output positive and negative voltage?

Yes. Connect the two center output terminals together while the power supply is operating in Independent Mode. The outer terminals then become the positive (+) and negative (−) outputs.

Can I output ±30V in Series Mode?

No. Positive and negative voltage output is only available in Independent Mode. Series Mode combines both channels into a single 0–60V output.

What communication interfaces are available?

The programmable version supports RS485, RS232, and USB, using the Modbus protocol, and includes free PC control software from KUAIQU.

Why should I use the Memory function?

Memory presets allow you to instantly recall commonly used voltage and current settings, improving efficiency while reducing the risk of accidentally applying incorrect output values to sensitive devices.
