What Are The Technical Indicators Of DC Regulated Power Supplies?

par zhangJames 28 Oct 2025 0 commentaire
The technical indicators of DC regulated power supplies can be divided into two major categories: one is characteristic indicators, which reflect the inherent properties of the DC regulated power supply, such as input voltage, output voltage, output current, and output voltage adjustment range; the other is quality indicators, which reflect the performance level (quality) of the DC regulated power supply, including stability, equivalent internal resistance (output resistance), ripple voltage, temperature coefficient, etc.

Characteristic Indicators

(1) Output Voltage Range

It refers to the range of output voltage within which the DC regulated power supply can work normally under the conditions that meet its operating requirements. The upper limit of this indicator is determined by the maximum input voltage and the minimum input-output voltage difference, while the lower limit is determined by the reference voltage value inside the DC regulated power supply.

(2) Maximum Input-Output Voltage Difference

This indicator represents the maximum allowable voltage difference between the input and output of the DC regulated power supply when it is guaranteed to work normally. Its value mainly depends on the voltage withstand index of the internal adjustment transistor of the DC regulated power supply.

(3) Minimum Input-Output Voltage Difference

This indicator indicates the minimum required voltage difference between the input and output of the DC regulated power supply to ensure its normal operation.

(4) Output Load Current Range

Also known as the output current range, within this current range, the DC regulated power supply should be able to meet the indicators specified in the technical specifications.

Quality Indicators

(1) Voltage Regulation Rate (SV)

Voltage regulation rate is a crucial indicator to characterize the voltage stabilization performance of a DC regulated power supply, also known as the voltage stabilization coefficient or stability coefficient. It represents the stability of the output voltage (VO) of the DC regulated power supply when the input voltage (VI) changes. Usually, it is expressed as the percentage of the relative change between the input and output voltages per unit output voltage.

(2) Current Regulation Rate (SI)

Current regulation rate is a main indicator reflecting the load capacity of a DC regulated power supply, also called the current stability coefficient. It characterizes the ability of the DC regulated power supply to suppress the fluctuation of the output voltage caused by the change of the load current (output current) when the input voltage remains unchanged. Under the specified load current change conditions, the current regulation rate of the DC regulated power supply is usually expressed as the percentage of the output voltage change value per unit output voltage.

(3) Ripple Rejection Ratio (SR)

The ripple rejection ratio reflects the ability of the DC regulated power supply to suppress the mains voltage ripple introduced at the input end. When the input and output conditions of the DC regulated power supply remain unchanged, the ripple rejection ratio is often expressed as the ratio of the peak-to-peak value of the input ripple voltage to the peak-to-peak value of the output ripple voltage. It is generally expressed in decibels (dB), but sometimes it can also be expressed as a percentage or directly as the ratio of the two.

(4) Temperature Stability (K)

The temperature stability of an integrated DC regulated power supply is defined as the percentage of the relative change in the output voltage of the DC regulated power supply within the specified maximum operating temperature range (Tmin ≤ Ti ≤ Tmax) of the DC regulated power supply.

Limit Indicators

(1) Maximum Input Voltage

It is the maximum input voltage that ensures the safe operation of the DC regulated power supply.

(2) Maximum Output Current

It is the maximum output current allowed to ensure the safe operation of the voltage regulator.
