Essential Tips For Using Independent Mode Of Dual Channel Regulated Power Supply

par zhangJames 20 Nov 2025 0 commentaire

Independent Mode: Basic Mode for Differentiated Power Supply

1. Core Definition & Application Scenarios

Independent mode is the most basic working mode of dual-channel power supplies. The two output ports (CH1, CH2) are fully independent, with voltage and current parameters adjustable separately without mutual interference. It is suitable for simultaneous power supply to loads of different specifications and needs.
Typical application scenarios:
  • Electronic R&D: Power a +5V/2A MCU development board (CH1) and ±15V/1A operational amplifier (CH2) simultaneously. The two loads operate independently—even if the operational amplifier overloads, the MCU board will not lose power.
  • Experimental Teaching: In circuit analysis experiments, power a series circuit (CH1 outputs 10V) and a parallel circuit (CH2 outputs 5V) simultaneously, allowing students to observe voltage and current changes of different circuits independently.
  • Equipment Maintenance: When repairing multimedia devices, use CH1 to power the motherboard (+12V) and CH2 to power the audio module (+3.3V). Detect the working status of the two loads separately to quickly locate faults.

2. Switching Operation & Wiring Standards

  • Mode Switching: Most dual-channel power supplies default to independent mode on startup, requiring no extra operation. If other modes were used previously, press the "MODE" button to cycle to "INDEPENDENT" mode. The parameter display windows for CH1 and CH2 will work independently, with adjustment knobs controlling their respective channels.
  • Wiring Method: Connect the two loads to the "+" and "-" terminals of their corresponding channels, ensuring complete isolation between loads.

3. Precautions & Fault Avoidance

  • Avoid Misconnected Common Ground: If the two loads do not require a common ground (e.g., isolated circuit testing), ensure no wire connects their GND terminals (to prevent ground loops and interference). If a common ground is needed, connect the GND terminals of the two channels via the "GND Interconnection" terminal on the power supply back panel to ensure consistent potential.
  • Load Capacity Matching: The voltage and current of each channel must not exceed its rated specifications (e.g., CH1 rated 30V/5A cannot be set to 40V/6A), as this will trigger overvoltage/overcurrent protection or even damage the power module.
